The term “Valknut” is a modern creation, as the symbol dates so far back, the original historical name is still unknown.
Pronounced ‘Vaal’Knoot’, the modern Norwegian definition means “knot of those fallen in battle” deriving from the word ‘Valour’ which means ‘Slain Warrior’, and ‘Knut’, meaning ‘Knot’.
The Valknut has several variations, but its main designs comprise of three interlocking triangles.
It is believed that the Valknut is a symbol of Odin. Odin was said to have been able to lay bonds upon the mind, rendering warriors helpless in battle. These same mental binds could also be used to loosen the tension of fear and strain.
